Mammoth - Tower Junction Road, Yellowstone, Oct. 30, 2007
We had spent several hours in the morning watching wolves, the Slough Creek Pack, feed on a kill in the Lamar River very near where Slough Creek flows into it. It’s a large pack of almost exclusively black wolves. As time passed a snow squall began to move in. After the wolves left and the wolf watchers left and the coyotes left, we left to go into Gardiner for supplies. I saw this scene and had to stop and photograph. As soon as I got out of the car wolves began to howl just below us to the left. They sounded about a hundred yards away. With the snow fall and the trees we couldn’t spot them, but they were close. It was such a magical scene with the snow falling and the howls echoing amongst the hills.
