This is a strip of wilderness sandwiched between a farm field and a city street and school. It’s too wet to plow, even with the ditch next to the road, so this little place has remained wild. In the spring frogs sing from this wet place and in the summer mosquitoes swarm from here. In the winter it is frozen and an explorer can wander through, though few do.

In the middle of the park, far away from others, with the prairie wind and the Dickcissels, Meadowlarks and Bobolinks singing, you almost feel back in time when the prairie stretched forever.

Lake Superior at Gooseberry Falls State Park. A transition zone, the struggle between water and land. An expressive place, nature shows it emotions at this place and we find an expression of ourself here.
